Buying guide for dinosaur bibs

Bibs are one thing that is hard to live without. They are great at keeping food stains off your child or drool or spit up off your infant’s clothing. We don’t know about you, but we can think of plenty of other things we could do with our time than laundry. And if you hate the thought of trying to scrub out stains on your child’s clothing, never let your home be without bibs.

Bibs are designed to keep your child’s outfit clean, so if they drop food down the front of them, the bib catches it.

Things to consider

There are various things to consider when purchasing a baby bib. While it can be tempting to pick the first one you see, you really should take a closer look.

Comfort

This one right here is huge. Think of how you feel when you have an uncomfortable shirt. Or the pants you are wearing are cutting into your tummy. It is not something that you like to deal with because then that is all you think about. Same way with babies. If the bib is not comfortable for them, they will tug and pull at it if they are old enough. Otherwise, they may just cry or scream.

A cotton bib is generally comfortable, especially for those ages 1 to 3 months. Look for a cotton bib that has soft straps that will not cut or dig into the baby or child’s neck.

Plastic bibs are not very comfortable. The straps are generally thin and will rub into the skin.

Cleaning

Look for bibs that are easy to clean. Plastic bibs are great for this, as you can easily wipe them down or rinse under hot water. However, plastic bibs do not last a long time, so you will be going through them a lot faster than cotton bibs. If you are an environmentally friendly person, you will also want to pick cotton.

Cotton bibs can be placed in the washing machine and the dryer. Depending on how often your child needs a bib, you may go through 3 of them alone at meal times, plus more if snacks are served.

Materials

There are several materials that a dinosaur bib can be produced from.

PVC, also referred to as vinyl, is used to make bibs. However, this material is toxic to a child’s health and should be avoided. It will emit toxic chemicals into the air, and the baby will breathe them in. Or the skin can absorb the chemicals.

Cotton is a great material for bibs to be made from. If you are worried about pesticides, be sure to look for organic free cotton. Cotton bibs are soft, easy to clean, and one that is used by many parents and caregivers.

Food-grade silicone has been used for bibs as well. This material is very safe and will not leach chemicals into foods, air, or the skin. As this material will not absorb water, it will be super easy to clean by wiping down. Silicone, a type of flexible rubber, will last a long time.

Polyurethane Laminate (PUL) or Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) are waterproof materials that have been used in bib making. These bibs are extremely easy to put on, and as they are waterproof, they will not absorb liquids. They are also easy to wipe down and comfortable for a child to wear.

Bibs with sleeves

Did you know that you can purchase bibs with sleeves? These bibs still are worn around the neck, fastening in the back with a button or velcro. But long sleeves are added. This is a great idea because the entire front of the child’s outfit, as well as the sleeves are protected. We don’t know about you, but we love this idea as children will be able to keep their sleeves out of food. We have all seen where a child that has a bib on will keep the front of them clean, but may use the side of their shirt to wipe their fingers. Or wipe their mouth or opposite hand on their sleeves. With this sleeved bib, you will not have to worry about that.

Bibs are a great idea to have on hand at home, in the car, diaper bag, or the stroller. You may want to get a few extra to leave at daycare or the babysitters or even at grandma and grandpas.
