Product Review: Picasso Tiles Dinosaur Magnetic Puzzle Cube Sensory Toy Kit

Looking for a challenging yet fun puzzle toy to complete with your little dino fan? If that’s you, we may have the perfect product – the Dinosaur Magnetic Puzzle Cube Sensory Toy Kit from Picasso Tiles.

You’ll likely notice the product’s size right away, which may be a little smaller than expected. We certainly thought this, although after getting it out of the box and having our toddler play with the puzzle, it soon became obvious that the 1.18″ x 1.18″ x 1.18″ magnetic cubes are perfectly sized for smaller hands.

This puzzle comprises 63 different pieces – 9 magnetic cubes and 54 illustrated decal titles. There are seven different dinosaurs included, with puzzles of Iguanadon, Brachiosaurus, Plesiosauria, Stegosaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex, and Pteranodon. Combined, this gives you seven different dinosaur puzzles – or 14 when you count the fossils and illustrated tiles separately.

The illustrated tiles are themselves magnetic, affixing on top of the cubes to create their own puzzles; it’s actually pretty innovative, and as far as we’re aware, something that’s unique to the Picasso Tiles brand. And as they’re magnetic, they can be used on all sorts of other suitable surfaces – you could use them as dinosaur fridge magnets, for instance.

And there are other benefits to the size of this puzzle; it’s small enough to throw in a bag or dino backpack to take with you on the road, offering a great way to keep young children entertained while traveling, and of course – it’s sized perfectly for a stocking filler, buying you those critical extra couple of hours sleep come Christmas morning.

There’s plenty of educational value here – from learning about different types of dinosaurs and colors to child development benefits like fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and problem-solving. This product really packs a punch when it comes to education – so much so that it’s been authenticated by STEAM.org.

The illustrations printed on the cubes have a very nice matte finish, which looks good and feels nice to the touch. And just like the decal tiles, they’re also color-coded, making the puzzle easier to solve for younger children.

Another thing we really liked about this product was how satisfying the cubes are to put together – offering an experience up there with the best fidget toys. They also make a rattling sound, thanks to the magnetic balls contained inside, adding an element of sensory stimulation to this magnetic puzzle toy.

It also turns out that this was the first magnetic toy that my daughter has so far played with – something I hadn’t realized at the time – which meant that naturally, she was pretty intrigued by how these cubes magically “stuck” together. If you’re looking for a first magnetic toy for a toddler that adds plenty more when it comes to educational value and play than an alternative, run-of-the-mill magnet toy, this pick is a pretty good choice.

This product is kid-friendly and safe – being made from non-toxic, BPA-free materials complies with US toy safety standards and is recommended for children aged 3+ years.

Overall, this 3D magnetic cube puzzle toy kit from Picasso Tiles has a lot to offer – being packed full of early learning benefits for toddlers and school-aged children. Given what you get, this toy really packs a punch when it comes to value and will keep your little one entertained for several hours at a time.

And if you like this product, you’re in luck – as the brand offers it in several alternative themes and styles, including everything from space to animal themes – providing plenty of options for future 3D puzzle play for you and your child to enjoy together.
