The first thing you’ll notice about this one is the included dinosaur plush. Well, probably not the first thing, given that it ships inside the bag – something we didn’t think about when we gave it to our toddler, who got a little startled when she opened it.
Both the size and quality of the toy are great – it’s larger than I expected, being a typical medium-sized plush, and I have to say that the quality was a pleasant surprise. It’s made from a corduroy-type material, which not only looks great, but feels great too.
We love the plush toy carrier concept – in all honesty, it’s pretty genius. While the dinosaur plush it comes with looks and feels great, the ability to remove it and place any other, similarly-sized plush in its place means that this isn’t just a dinosaur backpack. It could be any kind of backpack on any given day – adding plenty of variety and versatility with this one that you don’t get in other dinosaur backpacks.
When it comes to the look and feel of the pack itself, it’s pretty nice. We’re big fans of the two-tone blue and brown color choice, as well as the denim look of the polyester material it’s made from. It works well and looks great – giving it a more premium feel.
The backpack features 2x external side pockets, big enough for water bottles, juice boxes, and other easy-access drinks and snacks. Inside the pack, you’ll find 2x internal pockets – one fastened with velcro, with the other is a zippered pound – along with a sizeable main compartment.
This bag scores highly when it comes to comfort. It’s generously padded, more so than some of the other, cheaper packs we’ve picked up for your little one – and features fully adjustable straps with sturdy plastic ladder buckles. For added safety, there’s a reflective visibility patch on the outside of the pack, making for better road safety in low light conditions, keeping your little one safe from road users.
Considering its small size, the bag is pretty spacious. The internal, secured pockets are great for anyone using this as a dinosaur diaper bag when out and about with their little one, offering a place to store a dinosaur purse or other valuables easily. There’s also a fabric hoop found at its top, making it easy to hang on a coat hook once your child reaches playschool, daycare, or nursery.
When it comes to washing, it’s important to note that it’s not machine or dryer-safe – instead, you’ll want to spot clean, using cold or room temperature water, hang drying it when you’re done. The trick is to spot clean it regularly, say once at the end of each week, so it doesn’t become too much of a chore.
We’ll also add that this toddler backpack is recommended for kids aged 18+ months, and like all products from the Naturally KIDS brand, this one is made and tested to comply with ASTM F963-17, CPSIA, and CSPA – giving you that all-important peace of mind when it comes to safety.
Overall, this backpack is excellent. And while it might seem a little pricey at first, what you’re getting for the money is a high-quality, well-made pack that offers much more versatility and variety than the standard, run-of-the-mill alternatives on the market. In our view, it’s well worth the money – and your toddler will love showing off their brand-new pack and dino plush to all their envious little friends in the schoolyard.
